Volleyball activities finally resumed in NORCECA
Confederation in the month of August with Mexico
and Dominican Republic hosting the U23 Pan
American Cups.
The women’s event took place in the Mexican city
of Aguascalientes and the men’s competition in
Santo Domingo the Dominican capital.
The event in Mexico saw the Dominican side
winning the gold medal for the fifth time with a
victory over host Mexico 3-0 (25-20, 25-19,
25-22) in the final match.
Puerto Rico won the bronze medal after defeating
Suriname 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 29-27).
Madeline Guillen, who scored a tournament-high
22 points in the decisive encounter, was
selected the Most Valuable Player.
Mexico took home the gold medal of the U23 Men’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup after a 3-1 (25-27,
25-26, 26-24, 25-20) victory over Puerto Rico.
Josue de Jesus Lopez collected 20 points as the
top scorer of the Mexican side, including two
blocks. Ariel Hernández and Diego Gonzalez also
finished in double figures for the winners with
15 and 13 points, respectively.
Host Dominican Republic earned the bronze medal
with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22) victory
over Guatemala.
Lopez was selected the Most Valuable Player
while the most awarded individual player was
Puerto Rico’s Pedro Molina, who was selected
best scorer, best server and best receiver. |
