Dominican Republic powers up against Trinidad and Tobago

 

   

MORELIA, Mexico, September 28. 2015.- Dominican Republic powered up against Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-17) for their second consecutive win at the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship at Bicentenario Auditorium in Morelia, Michoacan.

Dominica Republic has a 2-0 record and eight points in Pool B, while Trinidad and Tobago remains win-less.

Dominican Republic gave a rest to staring players and during the match used different variations in their line-up. Trinidad and Tobago scored on powerful kills especially by Channon Thompson and also held off Dominican Republic with blocking.

Dominican Republic took advantage of 32 Trinidad and Tobago errors; they had a good margin in aces (6-1) and held a 29-24 advantage in spikes. In the blocking category, Trinidad and Tobago scored one point more (9-8).

Dominican Republic top scorers were Yonkaira Peña (8), Gaila Gonzalez (7) and Annerys Vargas (7). Outside Hitter Channon Thompson led Trinidad and Tobago with 12 points.

Tuesday’s Pool B matches feature Trinidad and Tobago against Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic meet Mexico.

Captain Niverka Marte of Dominican Republic said “our coaches gave all the players a chance to play, we have all performed together and as a team we work very well”.

Captain Renele Forde explained that today they had some improvising “our libero has a minor injury so we had to play different positions today and using a new rotation, hopefully she’ll be better for tomorrow. We always want to win so we aren’t glad with the result despite knowing that Dominican Republic is a good team”.

Dominican Republic Coach, Brazilian Marcos Kwiek said “our team plays all year long, so if we have the chance to give  players a rest we have to do so; we already had our game play set much before the beginning of the tournament, our player’s safety is essential. Due to our continuity in our preparation, I am able to use any player; I can’t speak about having an official line-up”.

Trinidad and Tobago Coach, Cuban Idalmis Gato said “we are moving step by step, we haven’t set a strategy for the next matches because I don’t know if our libero will get better”.
