TOKYO, Japan - Dominican Republic reserved its
best performance for host Japan, defeating it
3-1 (25-10, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19) in the final
match of Group A of the Women's Volleyball
Tournament of the Olympics on Monday night.
The Dominicans finished in fourth place of their
bracket with a 2-3 mark, advancing to the
quarterfinal phase where they will face the
United States, leader of Pool B with a 4-1
record.
Bethania de la Cruz had 5 blocks contributing to
a considerable 11-5 advantage for the Caribbeans
in the defense at the net. The winners prevailed
in attacks 63-49.
Prisilla Rivera with 17 points led four
Dominicans who reached double figures on the
scorecards. The middle blocker Jineiry Martínez
contributed 16 and her sister Brayelin chipped
in with 12 to go along with 14 by Bethania.
The Japanese Sarina Koga was the top scorer of
the match with 22 points and was escorted in her
team by Ai Kurogo's 11 points. |
