FIVB President Welcomes Participants in 2016 Congress

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, September 30, 2016 - Welcoming national federation delegates to the 2016 edition of the FIVB World Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 4-6, FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° said:

"The Congress is an opportunity for the global volleyball family to come together. A chance to reflect, celebrate and look ahead to the future as we continue in the pursuit of our vision to make volleyball the number one family sport entertainment in the world."

It is not the first key FIVB event the Argentina Volleyball Federation has hosted. The FIVB World Congress will be held in the Argentinean capital for the third time after the city also welcomed the event in 1982 and 2002.

President Graça said: "After a spectacular Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, it is wonderful to be back in South America for the FIVB Congress in Buenos Aires as we mark another important milestone in this special year for volleyball.

"It is a pleasure for me to welcome the FIVB Board of Administration, the FIVB’s Commissions – including our newly formed Athletes’ Commission – and the five Continental Confederations who play such a pivotal role in helping us spread volleyball’s values around the world.

"Volleyball is unequivocally in a golden era of success.  We have just witnessed the most successful Olympic Games where our sport was the signature event and we can look forward to an exciting future with the World Championships in both disciplines taking place in the next couple of years before Tokyo 2020.

"It is an honour for me to be the President of the FIVB during this momentous period in the history of our sport and I am excited for the many great moments ahead.

"Thank you for your support and I wish us all a productive and successful Congress!"

The 2016 edition of the FIVB World Congress will take place at the Hilton Buenos Aires from October 4 to 6 with workshops for national federations in categories 1 and 2 taking place on October 4.
