Four women teams claim two wins in Hato Mayor

 

HATO MAYOR, Dominican Republic, November 1, 2019 – The duos of Dominican Republic-A, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Costa Rica won their two matches on Friday, the opening day of the Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball Tournament at Rancho Doña Callita.

 

The Dominicans Julibeth Payano and Michelle de la Cruz and the Puerto Ricans María González and Bianca Torres both scored victories against the teams of Belize and Martinique and will play on Saturday for the top place in Pool D.

 

Payano/De la Cruz won 21-11, 21-9 over Clara Sabal and Kelsy Balderamos and then beat Martinique’s Cristelle Choux and Carole Herve 21-5, 21-8. Gonzalez/Torres won 21-8, 21-11 against Martinique and 21-12, 21-11 over Belize.

 

In Pool C, Cubans Yanisleydis Sanchez and Lidianny Echeverría won 21-9, 21-6 over Saldy Amparo and Ángeles Betancourt of Dominican Republic-B and overcame Alexandra Poletto and Megan Nash of Canada-B 19-21, 22-20, 15-11 in 53 minutes.

 

Costa Ricans Katherine Quesada and Mariela Quesada won the 3-team Pool B after victories over Rian Lenarduzzi and Anna Suen Dunn 21-17, 21-14 of Canada-A and Nicaraguans Swan Mendoza and Lolette Rodriguez 21-19, 13-21, 15-12.

 

In Pool A also of three teams, Corinne Quiggle and Falyn Fonoimoana of United States will play on Saturday with Valeria Valenciano and Taylor Nutterfield of U.S. Virgin Islands for the first place after victories over Trinidad & Tobago of Suraya Chase and La Teisha Joseph. The Americans won 21-5, 21-13 and the islanders triumphed 21-13, 21-12.
