Golden Day for Canada at FISU Beach Worlds

MUNICH, Germany, July 13, 2018 - Canadians Nicole and Megan McNamara won the 9th FISU World University Beach Volleyball tournament (July 9 to 13) today at Olympic Park in Munich, Germany.

The twin sisters from Vancouver, B.C, beat Paula Soria/Belén Carro of Spain 2-1 (21-14, 18-21, 15-10) in the final today. They also won their pool, remaining undefeated all tournament.

"It’s unbelievable – it feels so good," said Nicole. "I think we were a little bit nervous at one point, but once we shook that off and got back playing really aggressive, it really took off for us."

The McNamaras have had international beach volleyball success in the past (bronze at the FIVB U21 World Championship in 2016; a silver at the Youth Olympics and U19 World Championship bronze in 2014), and helped their UCLA Bruins to the NCAA Championship this year.
