Good start for Costa Rica and Nicaragua Men in AFECAVOL

 

PANAMA, November 9, 2018 - With high-action games, showing power in the attack and exciting defensive plays, the men's tournament of the XVIII Central American Major Beach Volleyball Championship got underway on Friday.

 

In group A, Alexandre Lezcano / Sebastián Valenciano of Costa Rica 2, added two wins in the first day. They overcame Miguel González / Elmer Valdez (Panama 1) 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) and then won 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) over Luis Luna / Gabriel Núñez, of Belize 2.

 

Nicaragua 1, with Rubén Mora / Dany López, won 2-0 (21-9, 21-12) against Gonzalez / Valdez and then won 2-0 (21-11, 21-9) over Irvin Reyes / Juan Menjivar, of Honduras, who started the day with a 2-1 triumph ((18-21, 21-18, 15-7) over Luna / Núñez.

 

In group B, some teams only played one game. Costa Rica 1, with Richard Smith / Monge, overcame Carlos Escobar / David Vargas from El Salvador in a great match, with good defensive plays, 2-0 (21-17, 29-27).

 

Gerson Contreras / Denis Lopez, of Nicaragua 2, won 2-0 (21-9, 21-16) over Jason Cabral / Baydr Sajia, of Belize 1. Davis Montero / Jason Quintero of Panama 2, won 2-0 (21-) 15, 22-20) to Cabral / Baydr. Tato and Pepe, from El Salvador won 2-0 (21-11, 21-12) to Montero / Quintero.

 

The top two of each group advance to the semifinal where they will play the first place of group A with the second of B, and the first of B against the second of A.
