Grenada takes Bermuda in four sets

ST JOHNS, Antigua, August 18, 2018 – Grenada was pushed a little by a young inexperience Bermuda team who literally stole a game from them in a four set match which marked the end of pool play in the ECVA Senior Female Competition.

After winning the first two set relatively easily Grenada allowed relaxation to set in in the third set. However Bermuda was not in the mood of just rolling over and took the game to Grenada and forced a 4th set. Grenada quickly changed gears and eventually to the fourth and the set 25-20, 25 -16, 22-25 and 25 – 13.

Raphael Braithwaite who philosophy is a win is a win was pleased that he is still in a position to go further in the tournament. “Grenada has been having some awful runs in this tournament in fact I think this is the first time that we have gotten thus far. So yes I am satisfied with the win especially since we tested some of our bench players to ensure that they are game ready in case of any eventuality. At the moment we are going to rest and get ready for our game this evening”,  he said.

Juanita Blee- coach of Bermuda was full of glee. “This is amazing to a least come away with one win. This would place the girls   positive light. We got better and better at little things and more importantly they are now fully aware of the level of these types of tournaments and understand the level of work they would have to put out in order to compete. I feel satisfied that we are definitely on our way to improving our skills and improving as a team overall”, she beamed.

Renisha Stafford led the individual scoresheet with 13 points. Her Grenadian counterparts in Sydney Ashton and Skakira Colleymore each contributed 10 points. Stafford appeared to be the most dominant factor of the match as a Middle Blocker. There she had 8 Spike and 7 important Blocks.

Jade Weaver led the Bermudans with 10 points as no one else managed double figures

On the team scoresheet Grenada led in Spikes 30-16, enjoyed a slight edge in Blocks 7-6 and had a whopping 22 Aces to 9. One area of concern however must have been errors since Grenada contributed 43 of Bermuda’s 74 points overall from errors. In return Bermuda donated 38 of Grenada’s 97 points

At this stage Grenada heads to the quarterfinals stage while Bermuda heads home with plenty of learning nuggets.
