High expectations among media members for Beach Volleyball in La Paz

 

   

LA PAZ, Mexico, April 7, 2016 - The Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit was officially announced at the Araiza Inn Hotel on Thursday, just a few hours before the beginning of the last stop scheduled in La Paz, Baja California Sur.

 

Members of the Control Committee as well as the Local Organizing Committee shared all their expectations about the competition that begins on Friday.

 

A total of 16 Couples will play in the men's tournament while 12 tandems will take actions in women's.

 

On behalf of Norceca President and FIVB First Executive Vice President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, Norceca Supervisor and Control Committee President, Mayra Huerta remarked that there is a lot of confidence by the Continental Confederation in the work and preparation of the tournament.

There has been a great coordination between the authorities of the Baja California Sur Sports Institute (INSUDE) as well as by the representatives of the Municipality of La Paz and the Mexican Volleyball Federation.

 

Among the authorities there were Jose Avila Geraldo, General Director of the Southern Baja California Sports Institute and Operations Director Javier Solis, as well as Nubia Barraza, President of the Southern Baja California Volleyball Association and Hilda Gaxiola President of the Beach Volleyball Commission of the Mexican Volleyball Federation.

 

A total of 200 ranking points will be given to each gender’s champions while the second place will earn 180, and the third place will finish with 160, remarked Competition Director Daymian Stewart.

 

Along with that a prize of 3,000 US Dollars will be given to first place on each gender, 1700 to second place, 1050 to third, 750 to fourth, 500 to fifth, 400 to sixth, 350 to seventh and 250 to eighth.

 

Some competitors like Cubans Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez, who won the stop celebrated in Guaymas last week, were present at the announcement to the media as well as Mexicans Josue Gaxiola and Jose Luis Rubio.

 

“We expect a good tournament, and feel glad for winning first place in Guaymas last week,” said Diaz. “We have worked hard and held a training camp in Tijuana for the circuit”.

 

Meanwhile, Mexicans Rubio and Gaxiola have become the local sensation after finishing fourth a week ago in Guaymas and playing a hard semifinal against the incumbent champions.

 

“I feel great we have reached a good position at the circuit, good competition, we faced a tough couple like Cuba”, said Rubio. “We know each other since we were children, we have played together at a very early age, so we expect to improve and move on at the tour.”

 

Matches begin on Friday at 8:00 AM local time at the Harborside Beach. Along with this announcement, the Preliminary Inquiries as well as the Techical Meeting took part at the Araiza Hotel. Matches will be broadcast localy by Mega Cable Network and results will be available in real time in the FIVB Beach Volleyball Platform.
