Honduras with first win against Barbados

 

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, August 27, 2018 - Honduras started on the right foot in the Norceca U-18 Women's Volleyball Championship by defeating Barbados 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-22) in the last game of the first day of the tournament.

 

Rocio Durón and Dazly Durán got 10 points each, while for Barbados Tenneille Chapman was the best scorer of the game with 15 points.

 

Honduras took advantage in attack (24-16) and in service (16-7), and were equal in blocking (5-5).

 

Rocio Durón, from Honduras, said that "the last point was exciting, I did not know how to celebrate it. We are very happy because we won, due to the support of the public, this type of tournaments is very strong and we won the first victory ".

 

"We have the games against Nicaragua and the United States, if we win tomorrow (against Nicaragua) we will be in the other phase (quarterfinals), we hope to get it".

 

Osiel Vasquez, coach of Honduras: "It is always important to win the first game, break the stress, overcome the nerves that are always ´present at the start of a tournament. The emotional part is fundamental and winning today is positive for us. We are going to tomorrow's match with a better mentality than Nicaragua and we have to take advantage of it".

 

Dashonta Addison, captain of Barbados: "This is our first time in a tournament and nerves made us make many mistakes, but I think we can improve, especially the mental part that influences a lot. It's a new experience, it's another level of volleyball and we can face others."

 

Anthazia Mason, coach of Barbados: "For me the nerves affected us, it was our first tournament, we did not have many games before. I think we can play better, the first game is always difficult and we have to improve the technique of the team."
