Hosts Canada grab first victory in Langley
Canada, host of the Norceca Men’s Continental Championship won
3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-10) against Guatemala in the last match of
first day of competition.
Gavin Schmitt scored 12 points (including 2 aces) for the
Canadian team while Rudy Verhoeff finished tallied 11.
Guatemala’s Andy Alexis Leonardo scored 11 points for the
Central American squad that will face Mexico on Tuesday. The
other two teams that will take action on Day 2 are Puerto Rico
and Dominican Republic.
“Best luck to Guatemala for tomorrow’s match against Mexico and
the rest of the tournament, for us actually this was an
important match because we needed to make points and get a 3-0
victory and avoid quarterfinals,” said Canadian captain Fred
