Mexican teams advance to Men’s Semis at Hato Mayor

HATO MAYOR, Dominican Republic, November 5, 2022.- Both Mexican teams, Jorge Barajas/Ricardo Galindo, and Gabriel Cruz/Isaías Aguirre advanced to semifinals of the Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball tournament, the sixth stage of the NORCECA Tour.

The Mexican duos will face each other in Sunday’s first semifinal, while Kyle Friend and Timothy Brewster of the United States, who are seeking their third title in a row, will meet Canadian Liam Kopp and Arran Chambers.

To earn their semifinal berth, Barajas and Galindo needed to extend to three sets to beat Jake Urrutia and John Michael Plummer of USA 2-1 (21-16, 22-24, 15-8), the same as Cruz and Aguirre, who recovered from falling in the first set against Nicaraguans Rubén Mora and Dany López 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, 15-9).

Friend and Brewster had no difficulties in beating Edgar Maldonado alongside Luis García of Guatemala 2-0 (21-9, 21-11) and have a shot to reach the medal round. Earlier, the Guatemalan duo defeated Jesario/Santamaria of Cayman Islands 2-0 (21-19, 21-10).

While Liam Kopp and Arran Chambers defeated two Dominican teams on their way to semifinals; first they beat Jorge Matos and Jorge Rosario 2-0 (21-13, 21-12) and then prevailed 2-0 (21-17, 22-20) against Oscar Martínez and Hayerling De Jesús.

Sunday’s schedule includes placing matches, the semifinals and finals, starting at 8:30 am (local time).
