Mexico rivals United States in U-19 penultimate day

HAVANA, Cuba, June 27, 2016 – Mexico swept to victory on the match against Dominican Republic after defeating them in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-15) to become the rival of United States tomorrow in the second semi final match, of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship, agreed for 21:00 (local time).

The winners were superior to their opponents in attack (26-16), block (9-1) and service (6-1), with ten unforced errors less (24-34).

Eduardo Dahli Kraus, middle blocker, was Mexico’s best scorer with 10 points followed by the outside hitter Miguel Sarabia (9); whereas Bayron Hernández (10) was the only Caribbean athlete with double-digits.

Precisely, Dahli Kraus said they prepared well to play against the Dominicans to whom he considers to be good players.

“That’s why we won. Given we did not play well against Cuba on Sunday, today we played by thinking of the clash versus United States this Tuesday. It will be a tough duel where we will have to do our utmost by playing point by point to the victory”, said the tall and slim middle blocker from Tijuana.

Gabri Alarcón stated “the difference lay on we knew to work with the floating service. We gave them opportunity either to organize the playing system or the ball to be touched by their outside hitter Bayron Valdéz as he is swift and very strong with an effective spike”.

“It will be a hard against United States, but we have already started to work on it as we have almost made the match planning and we will likely give a good show. Hopefully we will attain the expected result”, commented the optimistic woman who is in charge of a squad in this tournament.

Prior to the semi final games, it will be held those between Costa Rica-Jamaica (14:00) and Antigua and Barbuda-Dominican Republic (16:00) whose winners will go for the fifth place on Wednesday on the closing days of this event.

After finishing the game, the team of Dominican Republic left the competition hall. Regrettably, it was not possible to have neither the Dominican coach’s nor the team captain’s comments about the match as they did not attend the mixed zone.
