Peruvian Leyva scores 32 against TTO

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 5, 2016 – Angela Leyva scored a tournament-high 32 points to lead the 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15) victory of Peru over Trinidad & Tobago in Pool B.

 

Carla Rueda and Maguilaura Frias contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively, in the victory, while Darlene Ramdin topped Trinidad & Tobago with 16.

 

Peru improved to a 3-1 win-loss record and Trinidad & Tobago remained winless at 0-4.

 

Peru’s coach Mauro Marasciulo said to be glad for the victory and congratulated the players for the good game saying the loss in the second set was because of some mistakes capitalized by the good attackers of Trinidad & Tobago.

 

Peru’s captain Mirtha Uribe said the match was easier than anticipated and they are well prepared for the next match with a lot of confidence.

 

Francisco Cruz, coach of Trinidad & Tobago was pleased with winning the second set saying that despite the defeat it is a big achievement since the team only practiced together five times during the year.

 

Trinidadian Renele Forde highlighted the issue of the short time the team has been together and was pleased with the improvement in the offense that earned them the second set. He said that means quality, effort and commitment.
