Ponce to host All-Star Game in Puerto Rico

PONCE, Puerto Rico, March 9, 2017 – The Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation has confirmed the Salvador Dijols Pavilion in Ponce as the site of the traditional Women’s All-Star Game to be contested on Sunday April 2 between Native and Imported Stars.

The announcement was made by Dr. Cesar Trabanco, president of the Puerto Rican Federation on Tuesday.

“It is my pleasure to confirm the city of Ponce as the host of the All-Star Game,” Dr. Trabanco said. “The franchise of Ponce has presented a great spectacle during its home matches and I am sure the volleyball fans will enjoy a beautiful afternoon on April 2.”

The Leonas of Ponce are currently in second place in the standings with 32 points (11-2) and for this season the management of the team has implemented a new court set-up with giant screens to show live statistics information of the match, videos and photos of the players as well as digital boards around the court.

“It is a privilege and source of honor and pride for us to receive the opportunity to organize the All-Star Game and we hope to show all the amenities we have for the joy of the fans,” said Marcos Martinez, owner of the Leonas.

Another of the attractions for that day will be the implementation of the “Video Challenge”, the system in use in FIVB competitions where the teams can request the review of crucial plays like touch of the ball in the block, touch of the net and balls in or out of bounds.

It will be the 16th edition of the the All-Star Game and the coaches for both teams are to be announced on March 27. The coach of the team in first place at that time will coach the Native Stars and the coach of the team in second place will manage the Imported Stars.

Players of both teams will be announced on March 28 as well as some other details about the festivities surrounding the game.
