Puerto Ricans to resume training in Santo Domingo

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 6, 2017 – The Puerto Rican women’s national team will fly to the nearby Santo Domingo on Saturday to resume training sessions that were stopped due to the effects of hurricane Maria that left the island in critical situation.

In Santo Domingo, they will participate in the NORCECA Continental Championship Group A from October 13 to 15.

The Puerto Rican team will travel via PAWA Airlines departing from Luis Muñoz Marín Airport at 2:00 PM and arriving in Santo Domingo approximately at 3:00 PM.

The players included in the squad are setters Natalia Valentín and Jennifer Nogueras, middle blockers Jennifer Quesada, Alba Hernández, Neira Ortiz, Ana Sofía Jusino; outside hitters Stephanie Enright, Daly Santana,Legna Hernández; opposites Karina Ocasio and Shirley Ferrer; the líberos Shara Venegas, Valeria León and defensive especialist, Adriana Viñas Joy .

The technical staff is composed by Javier Gaspar, Abdell Otero, Gamalier Santiago, Patricio Chutney, Vimarys Cruz and José Luis López, who is the team manager

The Puerto Ricans will train in double sessions at Albergue Olímpico de Santo Domingo and on Monday they will play a friendly match against the Dominican U23 team that is preparing to participate in the Juegos Bolivarianos in November.

The NORCECA Continental Group A is a qualifier to the FIVB Women’s World Championship 2018 from October 13 to 15. Puerto Rico will meet Jamaica and Guatemala on Friday and Saturday and the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

The top two teams will get tickets to Japan 2018.
