Puerto Rico improves record in Group B

FORT LAUDERDALE, United States, July 28, 2016.- Puerto Rico defeated French St. Martin 3-0 (25-5, 25-4, 25-7) improving their win-loss record 2-1 in Group B of the NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship in Nova Southeastern University of Ft. Lauderdale Florida.

Puerto Rico (2-1) remains in dispute for the gold medal; they have yet to wait for the result between United States and Mexico to learn if they’ll play the quarterfinals.

Puerto Rico overpowered French St. Martin with their experience and controlling the spiking category by 28-3 margin and service points by 26-1 margin.

Paola Salas led all scorers with 9 points, Adeannette Ramos and Marve Monge added 8 points apiece, while Dariana Hollingston scored 7 points.

Andrea Fuentes captain of Puerto Rico said “today we worked on things we needed to improve, we had the chance to practice; this was a preparation match for the stronger opponents ahead. I would like to face Dominican Republic, we’ve never beat them and I would like to try and do it”.

Head Coach Juan Cartegena of Puerto Rico said “I always like all my players to perform, each one has their own role and has something do give. A game like today gives spaces to improve in our performance, always with respect for our opponents and trying to give our best”.
