St Vincent and the Grenadines blank Grenada and go for gold

 

LABORIE, Grenada, August 21, 2016:  St Vincent and the Grenadines blanked Grenada 3- 0 ( 25-22, 25-20, 28-26) to go into the gold medal match undefeated in the men’s Group B of the NORCECA Zone FIVB World Championships Qualifiers, here  at the Laborie Indoor Facility.

 

Grenada went into the match needing to avoid straight sets defeat and dodge the two other challengers, St Kitts and Nevis and Bermuda.

 

St Vincent and the Grenadines finished with a 3-0 win /loss ratio and will square off against St Kitts and Nevis, who had a 1-2 win/loss record, the same as Bermuda.

 

Both Bermuda and St Kitts and Nevis triumphs were by 3-1 margins, and the losses by the same deficit.

 

However, St Kitts and Nevis edged out Bermuda on points ratio and a place in the final.

 

St Vincent and the Grenadines left no space for error in their final match versus Grenada, with Outside Hitter- Cassius Franklyn registering 12 spikes and was his team’s topscorer, tallying 16 points.

 

For Grenada, the best scorer was Outside Hitter – Akim Andrew, who had 8 points.

 

St Vincent and the Grenadines was more efficient in spiking, winning 35-20 and had a 7-4 superiority in Blocks and 7-3 in service aces.

 

The non- scoring skills saw St Vincent and the Grenadines lead 25-17 in reception, 3-0 in digs, while both teams were even 14-14 on sets.

 

Putting their skills set together in their last preliminary match was pleasing to St Vincent and the Grenadines’ coach- Vance Andrews.

 

Making his assessment of his team performance thus far in the tournament, Andrews said, “I am happy with the team ...We are getting better and better with each match... Our first mission was to come here and reach the finals and that we have done; now it is time to take the gold”.

 

Before St Vincent and the Grenadines versus St Kitts and Nevis encounter, Bermuda and Grenada will square off in the bronze medal match.
