St. Maarten stuns the British Virgin Islands

MARIGOT, St. Martin, August 27, 2016 - St. Maarten sent a warning shot across the bows of their opponent, as they easily disposed of the British Virgin Islands (IVB), with a score of 25 - 14 ; 25- 15 ; 25- 15 .  St. Maarten jumped out to an early lead and applied pressure exponentially.  This afore was created by good passing and solid defense, this made the game easier to manage. Leading the charge were Riegmar Valies who contributed 14 points.  He was ably assisted by Captain Jeffers and Stephan Ellis who contributed seven (7) and six (6) points respectively.

The British Virgin Islands tried retarding the offense run of their opponents but it was to no avail.  Though highly experienced, the British Virgin Islands made too many unforced errors, which were leading cause of their demise.  Despite this, the team showed they have the ability to score points and hold defense.  Outside hitter, Canise Marquis was the lead scorer with nine (9) points.

St. Maarten’s coach Demitri Beauperthuy, applauded his opponents for the game they played.  His strategy for this game was to limit their ability to score points and it will take away their desire to play hard.  Team Captain Leonardo Jeffers noted his team played well but gave away extra points.  Captain Jeffers is of the view his team will improve upon noted flaws for tonight’s game.

Captain Frandie Martin of IVB felt his team could have played better but a plethora of fundamental errors caused them to get out of system.  He further indicated “Volleyball may look simple but it can be very complex, if you fall out of system it produces problems”. Coach Stephan Payne felt his team should have done better, as they did not show their true abilities.   The team must adapt to the warmer conditions and rebound for tonight’s game.
