U21 Pan Am Cup: Chile beats Barbados
Calgary, Aug. 09, 2025: Chile earned a third win today at the 2025
NORCECA U21 Men’s Pan American Cup at the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex &
Chief Jim Starlight Centre near Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
After losing to host Canada last night, the Chileans rebounded to
sweep Barbados on Saturday afternoon 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-23).
Chile dominated the first two sets, but Barbados put on a fight in
the third looking for their first set-win of the tournament. In the
end, Chile was stronger on attack, earning 40 attack points compared
with their opponent’s 33. Chile dominated in blocking 11-3, and aces
4-1. Barbados also gave up more points to errors 20-12.
Matias Ignacio Lois led Chile in points (14), followed by teammate
Felipe Emilio Rodríguez (13).
Barbadian opposite Isaiah Francis was match top scorer with 16
attack points.
Alvaro Del Campo Guzmán, Chile’s head coach, said: “I’m very happy
with this win. Yesterday we had a tough loss against Canada. The
team was able to bounce back well, based on how we played and how we
closed the third set, which the opposing team played very well.
Tomorrow we will prepare well to reach our ultimate goal, which is
to win a medal."
Medals are contended on Sunday, Aug. 10.
