UNAPEC and UNEV win Volleyball medals at University Games

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 7, 2017 – UNAPEC and Nacional Evangelica won the women’s and men’s gold medals in the volleyball Tournament of the National University Games in the Dominican Republic.

 

UNAPEC claimed the women’s title by sweeping Autonomous of Santo Domingo (UASD) 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18).

 

Gaila González led the winners with 25 points while Julibeth Payano contributed 11 points in the second crown won by APEC.

 

Jeoselyna Rodríguez and Marifranchi Rodríguez were the best for UASD with 11 and 9 points, respectively.

 

UNEV claimed the bronze medal after a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-6) victory over UNICARIBE with 18 points from Erasma Moreno and 9 by Junet Josif Con el bronce femenino se quedó la UNEV, que doblegó en tres sets (25-10, 25-17, 25-06) a UNICARIBE, con 18 puntos de Erasma  Moreno y nueve de Junet Jossif.

 

UNEV won their twelfth title following a five-set battle with Technologic of Santiago (UTESA) that finished 25-15, 21-25, 30-32, 25-13, 15-7.

Francis Hilario had 27 points in the victory followed by José Adames with 19 points. Janderlis Baldera and Jose G. Garcia finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the silver medalists.

 

UNAPEC claimed the men’s bronze medal with a 25-16, 25-21, 27-25 victory over ISFODOSU.

 

Mario Frías had 14 points for the winners while Manuel Hungría added 11 in the victory. Melvin Jimenez had 18 for the losers while Victor Castillo finished with 16.
