USA beat Puerto Rico in straight sets

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 4, 2021 – United States defeated Puerto Rico in straight sets 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 26-24) in second day of actions at the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.

The winners established a superiority at the net scoring via 9 blocks against 4 by their opponents. Puerto Rico, however, had the upper hand in aces 5-4.

Grant Sloane, Shane Holdaway and Tyler Mitchem finished with 14, 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the winners. Jair Santiago had a match-high 15 points for Puerto Rico and Omar Hoyos added 10.

Andy Read, coach of United States: “I am very glad with the kind of performance the team has had thus far. Puerto Rico is a great team and my boys responded the way they were supposed to. It reflected in the result.”
