USA secure top place in Pool G
SOFIA, Bulgaria, September 22, 2018 – USA remain unbeaten after
demolishing co-hosts Bulgaria 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) to
ensure the top spot in Pool G of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World
Championship on Saturday.
Aaron Russell was top scorer for USA with 16 points (15 spikes
and an ace). Taylor Sander got 12 and Matt Anderson 11, as coach
John Speraw made just one substitution during the whole match
when Daniel McDonnell came in on serve at 23-17 in the final
set.
Also in Pool G, John Gordon Perrin and Nicholas Hoag each
recorded 29 points as Canada edged Iran in five sets 3-2 (25-20,
20-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-12).
Canada outplayed Iran in all the scoring categories: 73-63 in
attacks, 7-5 in blocks and 8-6 in aces. Gordon Perrin had three
blocks and one ace while Hoag’s tally included four aces and one
block.
Amir Ghafour had 24 as the best Iranian scorer followed by Milad
Ghara and Amir Toukhteh with 17 and 11 points, respectively. |
