United States overpowers Costa Rica to lead Pool A

 

HAVANA, Cuba, June 25, 2016 – United Sates overpowered Costa Rica 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-16) to continue leading the A Pool of the NORCECA Boys U19 Championship when there is only one preliminary match left against the Dominican Republic.

 

The only player who had double-digit was the opposite hitter Jaylen Jaspar (12) in a match capped with a family photo of the two squads together as an expression of friendship, which relieved the wide-ranging difference in attack (28-13), blocks (8-1) and service (12-0).

 

Samuel Shweisky, coach of the winning team, stated his satisfaction for having seen his team more comfortable. “They have just adapted to everything. They are now enjoying this opportunity and they love sharing with boys from other countries as they consider it good for heart”.

 

Jasper, expressed: “We played and passed well and made good transitions. We accomplished with our playing system and we had good communication between us. We are very proud of winning and it is our main goal”.

 

Arturo Solano, coach of Costa Rica, commented: “This match became difficult for us due to our opponents’ physical capacity and height which allow them to develop a stronger playing level in the net in comparison to us”.

 

The outside hitter, José Andrés Ortiz, confessed: “We knew the rival comes from a nation which is powerful in Volleyball worldwide and defending champion at this age category. Even so, we tried to do our best and it was a good match”.
