TORONTO, Canada, July 20, 2015. - Renzo Caiurus and Mauricio Vieyto of Uruguay will face Ian Mehamed and Nicolas Capogrosso of Argentina for the fifth place of the men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Toronto Pan American Games on Tuesday.

Renzo Cairus and Mauricio Vieyto of Uruguay downed Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock with no difficulties 2-0 (21-14, 21-12). It was a slow match, both pushed hard with serves and spikes, but Uruguay benefit from Puerto Rico’s numerous errors.

Ian Mehamed and Nicolas Capogrosso of Argentina advance to the match for fifth place after the Canadian team of Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter had to abandon the competition because Sam Schachter was not in conditions to play due to a back injury.

Sam with an emotional speech to the thousands of fans at the Chevrolet stadium said “first I want to thank you guys for your support during these Games, I am not feeling well and the doctor’s orders were it’s not safe for me to play; I am sorry for not performing for you today. We have felt you love and good energy for the last days”.

His partner, Josh indicated “Sam is being modest, his injury is pretty serious. This is really tough for us and it’s something we didn’t anticipate to happen. We wanted to express our appreciation, we love you and thank you once again, and it has been one of our best experiences ever to perform at home”.

The crowd gave the team a standing ovation and a big round of applause.

The match between Daneil Williams and Fabian Whitfield of Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuelan Jackson Henriquez and Jesus Villafañe for ninth place was canceled due to the Venezuelan team withdrawal from the competition.
