With 43 points by Gabriel Garcia, Puerto Rico clinches second win

 

MONTERREY, Mexico, March 22, 2017 - Puerto Rico clinched its second victory in U19 Boys´Pan American Cup after beating Colombia in five sets by scores of 13-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20 y 15 9 con 43 points scored by Gabriel Garcia, while Pedro Molina closed with 16 for the island´s team. Meanwhile on the Colombian side, that opened winning the first set, Carlos Llanos topped with 14 units, Diego Valderrama scored 12 and captain Raul Rivas tallied 10.

 

Captain of Puerto Rico, Gabriel García: “We worked hard to keep the team running high. It was a fast but also a simple work to do, playing as quick as you can. We are undefeated but nothing is written yet. We have to do what we know and move on.”

 

Captain of Colombia, Raul Rivas: “Good match. Very demanding. Puerto Rico is a good team as so we are. But I think we have gained experience from this to play tougher in quarterfinals.”

 

Coach of Puerto Rico, Juan Albarran: “Colombia was a tough opponent. A tall team, good setter. We had to made our adjustement and changes when we began. We won against a good team in order to qualify to a World Championship.”

 

Coach of Colombia, Carlos Osorio: “We worked a lot preparing for this match. Puerto Rico was a good opponent. Good structure and good individualities. We began very well, but pressure and lack of concentration took us to make mistakes.”
