Women make a strong start in Beach Volleyball at Santiago 2023

SANTIAGO, Chile, October 21, 2023.- The women's beach volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 kicked off on Saturday, October 21, with the top-ranked pairs securing their victories without much trouble.

In Group A, the local duo Maria Rivas/Chris Vorpahl defeated Angel Williams/Kianny Quesada (CRC) with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-17) victory. After a closely contested start, Rivas/Vorpahl capitalized on their strong service to pull ahead, supported by a crowd of fans who filled the Beach Volleyball Center at Peñalolén Park.

Meanwhile, Atenas Gutierrez/Abril Flores (MEX) had to step up the pace against their opponents, ending with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) win over Karelys Simisterra/Ariana Vilela (ECU).

In Group B, Corinne Quiggle/Sarah Murphy from the United States overcame Lisbeth Allcca/Claudia Gaona from Peru with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) victory. Ana Gallay/Fernanda Pereyra (ARG) won 2-0 (21-11, 21-16) against Natalia Girón/Paola Alvarado (PANAM).

In Group C, Ana Patricia/Duda (BRA) had no difficulties as they easily defeated Yvonne Soler/Laura Molina (ESA) with a 2-0 (21-9, 21-6) win. The Central American and Caribbean champions, María Gonzalez/Alanis Navas from Puerto Rico, secured a 2-0 (21-15, 21-10) victory over Diana Ríos/Margarita Guzmán (COL).

In Group D, Brandie Wilkerson/Melissa Humana-Paredes (CAN) won 2-0 (21-11, 21-6) against Isabel Bianchi/Sol Acuña from Uruguay. In an intense match, especially in the first set, Erika Mongelos/Michelle Valiente (PAR) emerged victorious with a 2-0 (22-20, 21-16) result against Julibeth Payano/Bethania Almanzar (DOM).
