Revuelta and Candelas crowned at home in Mazatlan

MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 15, 2013 – Mexicans Martha Revuelta and Bibi Candelas won the women’s gold medal of the Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Tournament, the sixth stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit on Sunday. Revuelta and Candelas of Mexico-A defeated Melissa Humana and Taylor Pishcke of Canada-A, 2-0 (23-21, 21-18). It was the 10th career victory for Candelas, breaking a tie with the now retired Yarleen Santiago of Puerto Rico at the top of the all-time list. Revuelta increased her own record of more career medals with 25. “It is a great feeling to win at home in front of our fans,” Candelas said. “Canada is a young team but of high quality level. Next week we go to Puerto Rico and our goal is to win over there also.” “Is a personal victory since it is our first title together,” Revuelta said.  More  Español

Virgen and Ontiveros win their fourth title in 2013

MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 15, 2013 – Mexicans Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros recorded their fourth gold medal of the year winning the Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Tournament, the sixth leg of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit on Sunday. Virgen and Ontiveros of Mexico-A scored a 2-1 (21-18, 15-21, 15-13) victory over Grant O’Gorman and Sam Pedlow of Canada-A as both teams had to battle an intense hot weather and high humidity conditions. It was the 20th gold medal and 26th overall for Virgen, the highest totals in both categories in the history of the NORCECA Circuit. More  Español

Mazatlan offers appealing atmosphere around the matches

MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 15, 2013 – The spectators watching the action of the Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Tournament has been enjoying the spectacular performances of some of the best players in the region…..and something else. Because it’s is not only about kills, blocks and digs. It is the atmosphere surrounding the matches being played in the three courts assembled at the Mazatlan Municipal Unity of Sports that is captivating the fans of Mazatlan and the closest cities in the state of Sinaloa. Both men’s teams of Puerto Rico in semis at Mazatlán

MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 14, 2013 – Puerto Rico booked two spots in the semifinals of the Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. Battling high temperatures, the teams of Victor Rivera and Erik Haddock (Puerto Rico-B) and Roberto Rodriguez and Hector Soto (Puerto Rico-A) reached the final-four stage in the sixth stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit.The duo Rivera-Haddock breezed past to a comfortable 2-0 (21-12, 21-19) victory over Juan Revuelta and Ricardo Galindo of Mexico-B, but Rodriguez-Soto prevailed in a three-set marathon match with Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter of Canada-B by score of 21-18, 31-33, 15-12. Rivera-Haddock are now set to play local heroes Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen of Mexico-A while Rodriguez-Soto will meet Grant O’Gorman and Sam Pedlow of Canada-A.  More  Español

MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 14, 2013 – The two women’s teams of United States both advanced to the semifinals of the Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Tournament, the sixth leg of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit. In Saturday’s quarterfinals, Heather Hughes and Lane Carico of USA-A outclassed Dariam Acevedo and Vanessa Velez of Puerto Rico 2-0 (21-11, 21-16) while Traci Weamer and Allison Fleming of USA-B overcame Kacie Mactavish and Caleigh Whitaker of Canada-B 2-1 (14-21, 23-21, 15-9). Rafu and Lula honeymooning in Mazatlan

MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 14, 2013 – Roberto “Rafu” Rodriguez and Anna Lourdes “Lula” Ramírez married recently, so the Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Tournament is serving to the new couple as a special occasion and place for an extended honeymoon. On the sand, the Puerto Rican Rafu is pairing up with Hector Soto while the Guatemalan Lula is teaming up with María Jose Orellana, but otherwise they are together all the time pampering each other under the sun and the stars in the the paradisiacal Mazatlan in western Mexico. MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 13, 2013 – Local héroes Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen of Mexico-A didn’t disappoint the home crowd as they won their two matches in Pool A during the opening day of the Men’s Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Tournament, the sixth stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit. Ontiveros and Virgen, winners of three of the five previous events of the year, first defeated Guatemala’s Julio Recinos and Luis García 2-0 (21-13, 21-15) and capped the day with a come-from-behind victory 2-1 (20-22, 21-14, 15-12) over Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter of Canada-B. Beach Volleyball returns to Mazatlan

MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 11, 2013 – The seaside city of Mazatlan in the Pacific coast of Mexico will host the sixth leg of the double-gender 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit from September 13-15. Mazatlan is not strange to hosting beach volleyball international events as the city was the site of the final stage of the inaugural Continental Cup towards the London Olympic Games when capacity crowds watched the action.
