Americans and Canadians lock up semifinal positions

 

   

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, April 23, 2016 – The USA-A Team of brothers Taylor and Trevor Crabb progressed to the semifinals at the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament where they will meet compatriots Ed Ratledge and Ty Loomis of USA-B on Sunday morning.

 

The other semifinal contest will feature an All-Canadian battle with Cameron Wheelan and Michael Plantinga of CAN-A going against Aaron Nusbaum and Ryan Vandenburg of CAN-B.

 

The Crabb duo, winners of the opening tournament of the 2016 NORCECA Circuit in Guatemala City, advanced to the final-four round with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) quarterfinal win over Daneil Williams and Fabien Whitfield of Trinidad and Tobago, while Ratledge/Loomis prevailed in a tough battle against Erick Garrido and Andy Leonardo of Guatemala 2-1 (21-13, 22-24, 18-16).

 

Wheelan/Plantiga, crowned champions in the previous stage held in Costa Rica, moved into the semis with a 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) victory against David Vargas and Carlos Escobar of El Salvador, while Nusbaum/Vandenburg stopped Bryan Monge and Richard Smith of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-12, 21-16).
