Argentina beats Peru in straight sets

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 29, 2013. -Argentina beat Peru in straight sets 25-16, 25-17 and 25-21 in their debut at the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup on opening dayTeodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium.

Defending champion Argentina looked strong against a much younger Peruvian squad. The best scorer for Argentina was Elina Rodriguez with 16 points along with Sol Piccolo with 14. Katherine Regalado with 11 straight attacks topped Colombia.

Sol Piccolo was glad for what her team accomplished “we played well against one of the best teams in the zone, but Argentina has more to show.”

“Peru can do better and we proved it in the third set, we still need more experience” said Cristina Cuba.

Coach Guillermo Caceres admitted that his team performed as expected for an opening match “it’s always difficult to start, especially when we didn’t have preparation games.” He also indicated that they suffered in the third set, but their serves made a difference and know they must think in Brazil and Dominican Republic.

“We’re presenting a young team with bench players, preparing for the future and I believe they did well without underestimating Argentina” said coach Enrique Briceño.
