Argentina triumphed at U18 Pan Am Cup in Havana

 

   

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, December 4, 2015 – The Coliseum of the Sports City in Havana Cuba hosted the III Girls’ U18 Pan American Cup won by Argentina during the month of March.

 

Argentina overcame Dominican Republic in a thrilling five-setter 3-2 (17-25, 25-21, 13-25, 25-23, 15-8) to claim the gold medal.

 

Argentina’s Anahi Tosi was named the Most Valuable Player of the eight-team competition.

 

In the match that lasted two hours, Maria Corbalán led Argentina with 22 points, while Dominican Natalia Martinez and Massiel Matos finished with 22 and 21 points, respectively.

 

Cuba won the bronze medal with a straight-set 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) over Puerto Rico. Heidy Casanova topped the winners with 16 points.

 

In the match for fifth place, Peru edged Mexico 3-2 (27-25, 24-26, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12) after battling for two hours and 19 minutes.

 

Final Positions: 1. Argentina, 2. Dominican Republic, 3. Cuba, 4. Puerto Rico, 5. Peru, 6. Mexico, 7. Chile, 8. Costa Rica.
