Belize downs Honduras for fist win
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 14, 2013. –Belize downed
Honduras 3-2 (25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11) for their first
win in the third day of actionsat the 15th Boy’s U21
Central American Championship.
Each team went winning one set at a time extending to a fifth
tie breaker for the first important win for either one and ended
in possession of Belize.
In scoring skills, Belize had more effectiveness in aces with
6-3 advantage and in spikes by 50-47, while Honduras had better
blocking with 7-5 advantage.
Raluni Bernardez from Belize collected 23 points for a match
high and Daril Avila tallied 14 points. For Honduras, William
Thompson scored 21 points along with Johnathan Massu with 16
points.
Yserri Palacio captain of Belize said “my team isn’t performing
to its full capacity, honestly it should have been a clean
sweep; we’re lacking concentration and consistency, we still
mess around too much”.
For captain Jonathan Massu of Honduras the loss wasn’t so hard
“I am very proud of my team, it was a tough and my team did a
good job, proof of it is that we went to five sets.”
“We should have won in straight sets, but Honduras came out
stronger after losing the first set. The guys were motivated as
they knew the urgency for the points and they just needed to
enjoy and respect the game more” expressed coach Leslie Leon.
“We were too lazy in the beginning and our effort wasn’t enough.
We are missing players, we did the best we could and Honduras
remains with its boots on” indicated coach Rony Martinez. |
