Caguas close to its ninth title in Puerto Rico

 

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, May 9, 2014 – Caguas is one victory away from claiming its ninth crown in the history of the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior League following a dramatic five-set victory on Thursday.

 

Karina Ocasio and Falyn Fonoimoana each scored 23 points in the 25-21, 22-25, 27-25, 14-25, 17-15 victory over Ponce. Stephanie Enright contributed 19 points in the win.

 

Nicole Fawcett had a match-high 30 points in the losing cause while Airial Salvo and Sol Gonzalez added 16 and 15 points, respectively.

 

Caguas now leads 3-1 the best-of seven final series with the fifth match scheduled on Saturday at 20:00 at Juan “Pachín” Vicens Coliseum of Ponce.

 

Ocasio had 22 points while Enright and Fonoimoana added 19 and 17, respectively, in a five-set (25-15, 25-20, 21-23, 23-25, 15-10) victory of Caguas in the third match of the series.

 

Salvo had 23 and Fawcett 18 in the losing effort.
