Canada Remains Undefeated in World League Play

BOTEVGRAD, Bulgaria - Canada’s men improved to 3-0 in Pool C with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21) victory over Bulgaria in the teams’ first FIVB World League 2015 meeting at the Arena Botevgrad on Saturday.

Gavin Schmitt was the match top scorer with 26 points, with the next best contribution to Canada's scoring coming from Toon Van Lankvelt with 15 and then 13 from Gord Perrin. Vladimir Nikolov had 20 points for Bulgaria.

"I am happy with the win,” said Canada’s head coach Glenn Hoag.  “The team stayed very focused and respected the game plan.  At the end of the second set, we started to get tired and made several unforced errors in the third. Bulgaria played steady ball, but our guys came up with key plays in the crunch."

In Los Angeles, California, FIVB World League champions USA started their 2015 campaign with a hard-fought 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23) Pool B win against Iran. Taylor Sander scored a game-high 19 points in the victory.

In Mendoza, Argentina, Rolando Cepeda scored an equal tournament-high 28 points on Saturday as Cuba (1-3) beat Argentina 3-2 (17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 16-25, 15-9) in their Pool C encounter, earning their first win of the 2015 FIVB World League.
