Canada and USA won NORCECA Continental Championships

 

   

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, November 30, 2015 – Canada and United States won the men’s and women’s continental championships, respectively, held in Córdoba and Morelia, Mexico in October.

 

It was the first title for the Canadian men and the third consecutive crown, and eighth overall, for the USA women.

Canada defeated Cuba 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-18, 25-17) in the decisive match with John Gordon Perrin as the scoring leader with 18 points.

 

United States outplayed Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17) in the gold medal match. Nicole Fawcett led the winners with 17 points.

 

Nicholas Hoag was selected the most valuable player of the men’s event while Fawcett won the award in the women’s competition.

 

The teams of Puerto Rico won the bronze medal in both tournaments.

 

The Puerto Rican men defeated Mexico in straight sets 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) and the women overcame Canada 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17).

Best Digger: Dennis Del Valle (PUR). Best Receiver: Yonder García (CUB). Best Server: Nicholas Hoag (CAN).
