Canada announces women’s team staff for the 2019 season
RICHMOND, Canada, April 15, 2019
- Volleyball Canada is pleased to announce the staff that will
join head coach Tom Black previously named assistant coach, Ben
Josephson, and assistant/NexGen coach Shannon Winzer for the
upcoming international season.
Jeff Baxter, currently the University of Portland’s head
volleyball coach, has been named an assistant for the women’s
National Team. Baxter, who joined the University of Portland in
the spring of 2016 as an assistant, has also been responsible
for game analytics, video, and scouting, as well as serving as
the head coach for the UP Beach Volleyball team. In addition to
his experience at the collegiate level, he has worked with the
USA Women's Volleyball Team, focusing on research and aiding in
practice sessions.
Volleyball Canada is also naming two consultants to the team –
Ryan Hofer and Joe Trinsey.
Ryan Hofer has been Trinity Western University’s women’s team
head coach since 2006. In his 13 years as head coach, Hofer has
led the Spartans to nine U SPORTS championship tournaments and
has guided TWU to five national medals, including gold in 2015,
silver in 2016 and bronze in 2011, 2013 and 2017. He has also
coached the Spartans to eight Canada West medals, including gold
in 2015 and 2016.
Hofer also has experience coaching internationally with Team
Canada, as the head coach or the assistant coach at a number of
major international women’s events.
Joe Trinsey is currently an assistant for the women's team at
Brigham Young University, and on the advisory staff for Gold
Medal Squared, which provides volleyball education clinics and
camps, as well as other resources. Trinsey has also served as a
technical coordinator for the U.S. Women's National Team
(2013-2016) and head coach of the women’s World University Games
volleyball team. He has also held other collegiate positions.
Also working with the team this year is Trinity Western
