Canada wins Pool B of Women’s Challenger Cup

 

LIMA, Peru, June 28, 2019 – Canada won Pool B of the Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup following a sweeping victory 3-0 over Argentina (25-23, 25-21, 25-23) on Friday at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum.

 

As top finisher of Pool B, the Canadians will meet the second placed team of Pool A still undefined.

 

The tournament’s overall winner will earn a spot in next year’s Volleyball Nations League for women.

 

Canada held advantage in attacks 47-42 and also had margins of 6-2 in aces and 8-7 in blocks. The winners made 16 unforced errors to 14 by the losers.

 

Alexa Lea Gray had 20 points and Kiera Van Ryk added 11 in the victory. Autumn Bailey and Emily Maglio each chipped in with 10 points.

Lucia Fresco led Argentina with 12 points and Paula Yamila Nizetich added 10.
