TIJUANA, Mexico, December 27, 2013 - The Vancouver Island University Mariners of Canada, will begin a training camp at the Baja California High Performance Center.

The training camp, which forms part of the activities made in coordination between the FIVB Development Center, the North Central American and Caribbean Confederation (NORCECA) and the Baja California Sports and Physical Culture Institute, will end on January 4th.

A press conference is scheduled on Saturday to introduce the players and the technical staff of the Canadian team that for the first time will practice at the High Performance Center.

On behalf of the Baja California Sports Institute Director, Saul Castro Verdugo, the Sports Development Department Director Cesar Osuna Brambila, welcomed the Canadian college team coached by Drew Venables and Abe Avenders.

“We expect this training camp will contribute to have a very solid relationship between both countries, Mexico and Canada,” Osuna stated.

The Vancouver Island University coaching staff had the chance to know the High Performance facilities that have hosted many international events.

Both coaches had a good impression about the complex and the good sport lively atmosphere that dominates every stage and also appreciated such a great chance to see how the Baja California Youth and Junior teams train here.

The Baja California State Volleyball Association President Alberto Arreola Sanchez remarked the importance of the opportunity to receive teams from other countries not only for the purpose of establishing more solid friendship ties.

“It is important to receive foreign teams who can know the way we work in our country and our region in sports development and preparation,” Arreola said.

Players and Technical Staff of the University of Vancouver will spend the next few days at the High Performance Center Athletic Village and will also hold their fitness sessions at the Multipurpose Gym where they will also have some scrimmage matches against the Baja California State Volleyball teams.
