Candelas and Revuelta crowned at home
HUIXQUILUCAN, Mexico, June 8 2014 - Bibiana Candelas and Martha
Revuelta of Mexico 1 won the gold medal at the fifth stop of the
VIII Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit played at Bosque Real
Country Club.
Candelas and Revuelta defeated Kacie MacTavish and Caleigh
Whitaker of Canada 2 (21-19, 21-14). This was the first gold
medal of the season for the Mexican duo while
“Bibi” conquered the eleventh crown of her career in the tour.
“It was a great tournament and we appreciate the fans for all
their support. They were always behind us. It was very nice from
them,” said Candelas, who was followed constantly by the boys,
girls and families after she received her medal.
“It helped us a lot to compete at the World Tour and the Open
(in Vallarta) to win our first medal of the season,” said
Revuelta, who felt very motivated after having her family in the
grand stands.
“Kacie and I really enjoyed ourselves. We gave our best effort.
Mexicans played awesome and deserved to win that match,”
Whitaker remarked.
The bronze medal was for Tealle Hunkus and Kimberly MacGiven, of
USA 1, who won over Brandie
Wilkerson and Claudia Seguin of Canada 2 (21-15, 18-21, 15-12).
“I’m from San Diego, and I like Mexican culture a lot. I’ve been
close to Mexico and this was a great stop due to the response of
the people. We felt very excited playing here,” MacGiven
remarked.
Matches started on Sunday with semifinals. Candelas and Revuelta
faced MacGiven and
Hunkus. Mexico won 21-17 and 21-13. The other semifinal was
between Canada’s fellow compatriots.
Mactavish and Whitaker of Canada 1 defeated Brandie Wilkerson
and Claudia Seguin (21-17, 21-14).

Bronze Medal Match: USA1 d CAN2 (21-15, 18-21, 15-12).
