Cayman Islands Beach Volley kicks off with full action

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, April 25, 2014 – The Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first event of the 2014 NORCECA Circuit, serves off on Friday at Seven Mile Beach with 32 contests men’s and women’s.

 

The General Technical Meeting was held on Thursday evening chaired by Noel Williams, president of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Federation, and Arnaldo Sánchez, technical director, and Miguel Ramirez, referee supervisor.

 

Earlier on the day, all teams went through the traditional preliminary enquiry and passed the inspections of their respective nationalities and uniforms.

 

Ramirez performed the clinics with all the national and international referees designated to officiate the matches.

 

The action kicks off at 9:00 am with three women’s matches spread around the three courts set up in the area.

 

Chante Smith and Ileann Powery of Cayman Islands-B go against Claudia Seguin and Brandie Wilkerson of Canada-B in Court 1, Brenda Allen and Shanicia Dyer of St Kitts & Nevis meet Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro of Costa Rica in Court 2, and Stephanie Burnside and Gloria Santoyo of Mexico-A face off Vanessa Virgen and Paulette Cruz of Mexico-B.

 

The men’s schedule features Cameron Wheelan and Michael Plantinga of Canada-A taking on Julian Bissette and Joseph Clercent of St Lucia and defending champions Roberto Rodriguez and Erik Haddock of Puerto Rico squaring off Eargenell De Cuba and Alexander Mitchell of Aruba at 10:40 am.

 

They will be followed by the match of Guatemala’s Andy Blanco and Erick Garrido against Duncan Hamann and Ethan Manderson of Cayman Islands-C and the match of Tarandath Deonath and Tevin Joseph of Trinidad & Tobago against Ryan Vandeburg and Andrew Hinchey of Canada-B.
