Costa Rica returns to the path of triumph

 

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, July 19, 2019 - Costa Rica returned to the path of victory by defeating Nicaragua 3 sets to 0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-11) to start the penultimate round of the XVIII Central American Women's U-20 Championship, held at Gym # 2 Jorge Galeano in the city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

 

Costa Rica started the game rather hesitantly, with a 0-5 disadvantage, little by little it was coupling on the court, until it overtook Nicaragua in the areas of attacks from the net. This victory leaves Costa Rica in the fight for the bronze medal of the Tournament, awaiting the results of the day.

 

Costa Rica attacks for all areas of the field, which is why their top scorers, Ana Victoria Rojas (10 points), Mary Alfaro (7 points), Valery Solano (6 points), always appear very close. Like Nicaragua, its attack is reflected in four players, Masiel Brenes (8 points), Norma Brenes, Aura Balmaceda and Francesca Medrano with 6, 6 and 5 points respectively.

 

Costa Rica took advantage of the 27 points for unforced errors of the Nicaraguans, and only committed 17 errors in the 3 sets.

 

The Costa Ricans were largely dominating with 33 effective attacks against 13 of Nicaragua, in serves and blocks teams were quite even, Nicaragua dominated the blocks (8-6) and Costa Rica the services (9-5).
