Cuba stays undefeated in Pool F after first week
MEXICO CITY, Mexico, June 8, 2014. - With the Sports Palace Juan
Escutia packed, Cuba brushed aside hosts Mexico in straight sets
25-21, 25-21, 25-22 to conclude Pool F first round of FIVB World
League unbeaten with a 3-0 mark.
Rolando Cepeda was Cuba’s best weapon, scoring a match high of
16 points, followed closely by Santiago Uriarte with 14 points.
Cuba’s performance was more effective with advantage in the
blocking category 9-5 as well as service points by 2-0.
Tomas Aguilera and Daniel Vargas finished with 8 points apiece
as Mexico’s top scorers in the match.
“We have an immense desire to win, which allowed us to finish
unbeaten in the pool,” Cuban captain Cepeda said.
“Mexico
had some problems and we used them to our advantage.”
In the first match of Sunday, Turkey earned its first victory
after defeating Tunisia in four sets (25-18, 25-20, 15-25,
25-22).
Toy Metin finished with 20 points for Turkey as the winners
outblocked their opponents 17-9. |
