Cuban Gutierrez named MVP of Pan Am Cup

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 29 2019 – Cuban Jose Miguel Gutierrez was named the Most Valuable Player of the U19 Boys’ Pan American Volleyball Cup that concluded on Monday with a victory of Cuba over Mexico in the match for the gold medal.

Cuba took a lion’s share at the award ceremony as member of the winning team received eight of the twelve plaques presented to the best players.

Victor Andreu and Gutierrez were the two outside hitters while Luis Vidal Allen and Dominican Dawilin Méndez were the two middle blockers.

In addition to his MVP plaque Gutierrez was named best server and teammate Eduardo Hernandez was the best opposite.

Christian Thondike was selected as best setter and Ricardo Gómez the best libero.

Puerto Rican Gabriel Pantoja was the best receiver and Nicaraguan Jordan Carcaché the best defender. Dominican Fuhit Edouarde was named the best scorer.
