Curacao claims first victory

 

ORANJESTAD, Aruba, May 19, 2013 – Curacao defeated Antigua & Barbuda in straight sets (25-11, 25-17, 25-19) in the first match of Sunday in the NORCECA Second Round Group L Tournament of the 2014 Men’s FIVB World Championship at Centro Deportivo Betico Croes in Oranjestad.

 

Curacao finished the preliminary phase with a 1-2 win-loss record while the losers remained winless in three outings. Both teams will meet again on Sunday evening in the consolation match for third place.

 

Darwin Colina finished with 18 points, including five blocks, for Curacao and now has 71 points in three matches to lead all the scorers in the competition. He was the only player with double figures in the match.

 

Curacao held advantages of 10-7 in blocking and 5-1 in aces while committing 17 unforced errors to 27 of Antigua & Barbuda.
