Costa Rica wins with perfect record

SALVADOR, El Salvador,

Costa Rica won
its fourteenth crown
in the Women's Central American
Volleyball Cup by defeating
Honduras 3-0 (25-15,
25-14, 25-16)
in the last day of
tournament.
Nicaragua, took
second place with
a better balance
of points to
Guatemala. Both teams
totaled 17 points
but the best average
points (1,226
to 1,056) gave
the Nicaraguan team
the second place.
Without dropping a
set, the unbeaten
Costa Rican team won
its eleventh
consecutive title. As of
the 1993 Costa Rica
has not left the
throne of the region.
Verania Willis
with 18 points led
the team champion.
For Honduras,
the captain Tessa
Flores scored
nine points.
Nicaragua won 3-0
(25-15, 25-18,
25-12) to El Salvador
to secure second place
in the tournament,
relying on the blocking that gave them
11 points. Valeska
Hernandez led the
winners with 14 points and
Heidy Traña added 12.
For El Salvador,
Adriana Flores
had 10 points.
Guatemala was third
following a 3-0
(25-14, 25-22, 28-26) victory over a
fighting Panama, who already without
chances of a place among the top three,
gave a great game.
Ruth Gomez
was confirmed as the
most efficient attacker
of Guatemala
with 18 points,
nine of
the captain Diana
Arias. Hashlyn
Cuero, captain of
Panama was the best of her side
with 12 points. |
