Dominican Republic dominated Brazil
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 29, 2013. -Dominican
Republicdominated Brazil 3-1 (25-21, 27-25, 10-25, 25-18) in
Pool A at the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup.
It was an exciting first match between both teams already
qualified for the World Championship. Dominicans had a scare
when Brazil won the third set by a fifteen point difference but
managed to turn things in their favor.
Brayelin Martinez led Dominicans with 19 points, accompanied by
Galia Gonzalez and Maria Garcia with 18 and 10 points
respectively, while Drussyla Costa was the leader for the
Brazilian side with 21 points.
“This is only one match, we haven’t won anything yet. My team
was overconfident in the third set and Brazil definitely took
advantage” said Brayelin Martinez captain of Dominican Republic.
Lorenne Geraldo spoke calmly accepting that Dominicans deserved
to win, “they were superior and we were too nervous”
Wagner Pacheco, coach for the winners indicated “this is the
first time both teams have met and it was a tough match for
both, we need to play more frequently with teams of this high
performance. I’m satisfied with the victory.”
Mauricio Thomas coach of Brazil said “Dominicans dominated us
with their best attributes: attack and blocking. My team was
very anxious and we had faults in our defense.” |
