Dominicans blocked the road to USA

 

CONEGLIANO VENETO, Italy, May 30, 2019 – The Dominican Republic put an end to the undefeated record of United States by winning the duel between the two NORCECA teams at the Women’s Volleyball Nations League on Thursday.

 

The Dominicans (3-3) won the seesaw five-setter 3-2 (25-10, 16-25 25-19, 19-25 15-11) against the defending champions United States (5-1).

 

The winners scored an astonishing 15 blocks, including seven by Lisvel Eve who didn’t play in the first four matches of the competition.

 

Brayelin Martínez led the Dominicans with 26 points, followed by Bethania de la Cruz who had 12, including four aces and one block, and Eve with 11. Jineiry Martínez added 9 while Prisilla River and Yonkaira Peña each had 8 points.

 

Chiaka Ogboku and Dana Rettke had 16 and 12 points, respectively, for USA, while Madison Kingdon Rishel, Andrea Drews and Jordan Thompson each had 11 points.
