Favorites open with two wins in Guanacaste

 

   

GUANACASTE, Costa Rica, April 15, 2016. Cuba, United States and Canada each won two matches in the first stage of the four stop of NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit, confirming their favorite status.

 

Yanisleidis Sanchez/Lidiannis Echeverría de Cuba downed Jarisa Hynds/Christeanne Etches of Honduras, by 2-0 (21-10, 21-9), and Jessica Wolfenden/Stefanie Gandolfi, of Cayman Islands, by 2-0 (21-9, 21-6). They left for the second day the definition of first place in Pool A, as Costa Rica with Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro also won their two games to Honduras by 2-0 (21-8, 21-10 ) and Cayman Islands by 2-0 (21-9, 21-6 ).

 

Brandie Wilkerson/Julie Gordon of Canada–A got two victories, first over Valeria Valenciano/ Marcela Araya of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-11, 21-19), and over Bennett /Valenciana of Virgin Islands by 2-0 (21-5, 21- 6). In Pool B, there a was surprise the victory of Valenciano/ Araya over Stephanie Burnside/ Zaira Orellana, of Mexico by 2-1 (21-17 14-21 17-15 ).

 

Meanwhile, another couple from Mexico of Claudia Rios/Gloria Santoyo finished with two wins, beating Claudia Machado/Socorro Lopez of Nicaragua 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) and Ana Villalobos/ Aury Alvarez of Guatemala, by 2-0 (21-7, 21-6) . Rachel Crockel/ Camille Saxton also from Canada defeated Machado/Lopez by 2-0 (21-12, 21-15) and Villalobos/Alvarez by 2-0 (21-3, 21-4).

 

Kelly Reeves and Allison McColloch of United States-A in Pool D beat against Laura Molina/Marcela Ávalos, of El Salvador, by 2-0 (21-11, 21-7), and prevailed against Betsi Flint/Kelley Larsen, of United States- B, by 2-0 (21-19, 21-19).

 

Reeves/McColloch won the first Tour stop in Guatemala and their compatriots Kimberly Dicello/Kendra Vanzwieten took first place in Gaymas, Mexico; while Canada Gordon/Wilkerson prevailed in La Paz, Mexico, at the third stop.
