Guatemala seventh place in NORCECA

DURANGO, Mexico, August 23, 2021. - Guatemala swept Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) for seventh place at the Men’s NORCECA Continental Championship in Durango, Mexico.

Guatemala (1-4) scored on 31 opponent errors and led 2-1 in serves, Trinidad and Tobago (0-5) held a 9-5 advantage in blocks and scored 18 points on Guatemala’s errors; both teams finished with 37 points on attacks.

Outside hitter Carlos López led Guatemala with 16 points on 13 kills, 2 blocks and one ace, joined by outside hitter Gerardo González with 12 points on 10 kills and 2 blocks.

With a match-high of 24 points, outside hitter Daynte Stewart led Trinidad and Tobago.

Carlos López, Captain of Guatemala: “We played a good tournament, we had really good performances and we’re confirming our seventh position in NORCECA ranking despite not being at our best”.

Ryan Stewart, Captain of Trinidad and Tobago: “To me we started off pretty well, we didn’t finish with the result we wanted but the guys still did pretty good; in the latest stages of the game, in crucial moments we made simple errors”.
