Haiti blows away St Kitts and Nevis in straight sets

 

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, April 27, 2013 - Haiti unleashed their fury on an unresponsive St Kitts and Nevis 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-11) to claim their first victory of the NORCECA Second Round Pool J Tournament of the of the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships at the Beausejour Gym on Saturday evening.

 

The efficient Haitians got the job in just 58 minutes.

 

Haiti, who lost to St Lucia in their opening outing, avenged that defeat on the Kittians, thus condemning to their second successive defeat.

 

St Kitts and Nevis provided limited resistance in the first set, but fell apart thereafter, as the injury bug invaded their line-up, as team captain Steadroy Collins suffered a knee injury and St Clair Hodge went down with cramps.

 

Haiti’s Fritz Emmanuel Mabou registered 22 points, while Volvick Senel Dupuy added 10 to aid the Haitians cause.

 

Coach of the Haiti team- Joseph Yves Larrieux welcomed the win and projected that his team will get better as the competition progresses.

 

A somewhat despondent coach of the St Kitts and Nevis team, Glenn Quinlan, whilst apportioning blame his team’s performance on the injuries sustained, admitted to his team’s tactical and technical short comings and the superiority of the Haitians.

 

“With three of your starters out, you are not going to make it at this level….Physically they were superior than we were and they used that to good effect and we helped in the eventual outcome,” Quinlan said.
